Chevrei Tzedek emphasizes the centrality of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, to Judaism. Our commitment to social action and justice flows organically from our Founding Principles. It's a fitting tribute to our name.

Social Action is one of Chevrei Tzedek’s most active committees. Ongoing projects include:

§   Providing food for shelters, including delivery to Bea Gaddy Center and meal preparation for a women’s shelter. We plan to expand our shelter project in 2010.

§   Tikkun Olam projects tied to holidays, such a canned food drive during Yom Kippur, and Purim Mishloach Manot baskets for residents of Weinberg Woods, a senior living community.

§   Membership in the Baltimore Jewish Environmental Network (BJEN) www.bjen.org. Chevrei Tzedek has signed BJEN’s Green Synagogue Covenant of Commitment and will be offering educational programs focused on greening our congregation, neighborhoods and homes. BJEN provides a representative to our Green Mezuzah Chavurah, which meets monthly for a potluck dinner and discussion of individual environmental projects.
